Kibera walls for peace
Kibera Wall For Peace is 20 meters away from KCEO admin office, the wall was an initiative for ensuring peaceful election during 2013 national election. The wall has more than 50 peace word messages both in Swahili and English. It enhance community integration and peaceful cohesion among the tribes living in Kibera slum.This is a memorial stop for short political history in Kibera slum, which has been rocked with tribal violence in the past. Today people in Kibera slum lives with harmony and peace.
Watch peer education in practice
During the tour, you will have the opportunity to sit in on a peer education class and watch our team in action. The students engage with our peer educators on issues central to their lives such as corruption, environmental conservation and sexuality. Our peer educators are all volunteers that believe in early education and understand the impact of supporting children through the many social issues they are faced with. During these sessions, you will have ample opportunity to interact with the students at different levels depending on the session of the day. It is quite an experience!
Visit artisan workshops
KCEO has unique recycled products made from trash and sold within and outside of Kibera. These products are uniquely designed by creative artisans from the slum. KCEO employs both youth and women to work on designing products of their choice. Our products include shoes and purses made from traditional African fabric, bags and jewelry made from polyethylene paper. The funds received from the sale of these products provides are employees with a stipend, supports KCEO’s programs and gives a lucky few the opportunity to get their education paid for.
Admire Entrepreneurship
The truth is that “Kibera may be the most entrepreneurial place on the planet.” Everywhere you look in Kibera you will see entrepreneurship. As you walk along the railway line you will see shoes, denim skirts, phone chargers, dvds and anything else you could possibly want. You will also have the opportunity to visit a bone factory, an art shack or a team of recyclers collecting trash from local residents.
